Located in the heart of Dongguan City, St Bees School Dongguan Centre revitalizes a former shoe factory into a modern international campus for A-level students, bridging four centuries of British heritage with contemporary design. The facade incorporates a red brick brise soleil using local materials that mimic British red sandstone to deflect sunlight, while the interior features a high-ceilinged entrance anchored by a central, cylindrical library.
The design seamlessly blends Chinese and Western cultures through thoughtful architectural details, such as British arches, rounded bookshelves, and interactive common spaces. Balancing tradition and modernity, the campus incorporates acoustic ceiling panels, warm wood furnishings, transparent light films for natural illumination, and a mix of formal and informal learning zones tailored to student preferences.
